That is all from my side for today. We will see you tomorrow for action on day 4
Saha is the new bastman in
Out! Kohli falls just before stumps. He will be disappointed with the way he has given his wicket away. He falls for 115 to Johnson
Seven overs are remaining in today's play
Kohli and Rohit are continuing to dominate the Aussie bowlers -- they are using the feet tremendously well and will be hoping to bat the remaining overs
India are 348 for 4 in 88 overs. Still minimum of 10 overs are remaining today
Rohit Sharma has also settled in well -- he is playing some brilliant shots in the middle
CENTURY! Virat Kohli brings up his seventh Test with a boundary. He became the third Indian to score a century on his captaincy debut in longer format of the game
Another outstanding shot by Kohli -- he pulls Johnson over the midwicket for another boundary. He is in 90s now
India are 317 for 4. Trail by exact 200 runs. They have avoided the follow on
Kohli is taking the attack to Johnson with the new ball. Have hit him for two boundaries and a couple. He has moved to 88 now
New ball has been taken by Clarke and Harris will bowl first over with the new ball
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are in the middle as India reach 300 in the 79th over.
If Aussies can take a couple more before stumps, then this match can really become interesting.
Rahane scored 62 from 76 balls. India are 293 for 4
OUT! Nathan Lyon strikes at the right time for Australia. The ball rose from rough and extra bounce did the trick and Rahane got a big outside edge and it was an easy catch for Watson
100 partnership is up between Kohli and Rahane. The duo have batted excellently and have dominated the bowling
Chandu Borde who also made his Test captaincy debut at Adelaide in Dec 1967 had made 69.... Today 47 yrs later Virat Kohli 73*
Kohli and Rahane are continuously playing some brilliant shots -- Australia bowlers are surely struggling in this flat wicket
Fifty for Ranane as well. He started his innings in scratchy way but he settled in soon and have played some brilliant shots.
Rahane is mixing some delectable shots with some hair-raising ones - Harsha Bhogle
Rahane with two brilliantly timed boundaries to Harris. All Indian batsmen have got starts and Kohli will be hoping that he makes a big one
Beautiful drive from Rahane, it was on a fuller length and just outside off, Rahane leans forward, gets to the pitch of the ball and drives it to the sweeper cover fence.
Lyon got his hands on the ball, Rahane was backing up too far and had the ball hit the stumps, Rahane would have been out. India are 229 for 3
Fifty for Virat Kohli -- first ball after tea he picks up two and brings up his 10th Test half century
Teams are back for third and final session of day's play
Kohli is 48 while Rahane is on 19
Tea: India go into at 223 for 3 after 61 overs. Visitors will be pretty satisfied by their performance in this session as they have just lost one wicket in it.
Virat & Ajinkya are continuously rotating the strike against Johnson. This is an interesting battle - Virat-Rahane vs Johnson.
A loud appeal from the Australians as they think that Rahane has edged this one, it was very full and wide of off, Rahane goes after it, he can't squeeze it out, the ball goes through the keeper and there was a faint noise, but Rahane didn't get an edge there, the sound came as the bat hit the pitch, good call from ump Erasmus
Lyon continues to trouble the Indians with efficient bowling. He is bowling slow through the air and also getting turn. The Indian spinners were poor.
200-up for India in the 56th over. Kohli on 39 while Rahane on 5. India will be happy with the proceedings so far
Lyon is bowling superbly here and Rahane is not looking confident at all in the middle.
Another loud appeal for LBW but umpire says no. Inside edge saved Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane is the new man in
India are 192 for 3 and wicket at right time for Australia.
OUT! Cheteshwar Pujara on 73 is bowled. Inside edge on to the legs and it rolls on to the stumps. Agony for Puajra -- he was looking so so good
Kohli has been positive from ball one -- he struggled in England earlier this year but at the moment he looks in great touch. Hopefully he can make most of this start.
Nathan Lyon comes back to the attack and almost picks up a wicket. Kohli is lucky that the ball fel ljust short of forward short leg fielder.
India need 134 runs to avoid follow on and still 8 wickets in hand -- so it should be a formality from our point of view.
Players take the drink with India 180 for 2. Kohli on 26 and Pujara is on 71.
India are 178 for 2 after 45 overs.
The partnership is worth 65 between the duo. Kohli, Pujara are looking very well settled
So far only one boundary has been hit towards third man in this Indian innings.
Another beautiful shot by Pujara -- it was full and it was played with some class. India are 162 for 2
This is Pujara's first fifty in 10 innings.
FIFTY! Cheteshwar Pujara brings up his fifty. That is his 6th fifty of Test career
India are 147 for 2
Another over pitched delivery by Siddle and Pujara says thank you and hits it through cover for another boundary. That's a bread and butter for any batsmen
The pitch is ideal for batting at the moment -- the ball is getting softer and it's a flat pitch. If Australia want to pick up wickets here -- they need to change the tactics
Outstanding cover drive by Pujara -- juicy half volley and Pujara drives it and picks up easy boundary. Great timing and placement out there.
Johnson with another brilliant short delivery but very well left by Pujara. Surely he won't try to hook Johnson keeping his pace in mind.
Pujara has looked very comfortbale in the middle. He has been positive from word go and is playing on 36 at the moment
Great start after lunch -- first ball is dispatched to boundary by Kohli. It was pitched up and he smashes it through cover for his first boundary.
Players are back on the field for the second session. Beautiful weather conditions today.
It's lunch: India are 119 for 2 with Kohli and Pujara in the middle. Kohli is not out on 3 while Pujara is on 34
There will be one more over before lunch
Kohli is off the mark with three thanks to a good shot through mid off. He showed full face of the bat on front foot. Good intent early on
The Aussie are up to check whether he is fine. The umpires and Pujara are up to Kohli checking on him
Johnson welcomes Kohli with a bouncer that hit his helmet
Vijay scored 53 before edging one to keeper. India are 111 for 2
OUT! Johnson picks up Murali Vijay just at the stroke of lunch. Great line and length by the the pacer.
Murali Vijay brings up his fifty with three. That is his 7th Test fifty. He will be hoping to carry on and make the most of this start.
Johnson is back into the attack. He was pretty expensive in first five overs but Clarke will be hoping that he provides with at least one wicket before lunch
Johnson has bowled only 5 overs so far. That is really surprising
100-up for India in 24 overs. This has been a good response by Indian batsmen. Murali Vijay is on 49
Vijay is going after Lyon and he clearing the long boundary once again. SIX more! He is closing in on 50
That six from Vijay traveled 97 meters.
Fifty partnership up between the duo. Vijay on 36 and Pujara on 17
First six of Indian innings -- Vijay with a brilliant shot that cleared the boundary with ease. Tossed up delivery from Lyon and he used his feet, before lofting it well, over long-on and then followed with boundary at the same region.
Vijay has settled in well and is playing some classy shots now. He has moved to 26
The pitch hasn't done anything and Dhawan is the only batsmen to fall so far. India are 62 for 1 after 15 overs.
Chance there for Australia goes begging. Big outside edge and a difficult chance to Mitchell Marsh. Meanwhile 50 is up for India. Vijay was the batsman.
Mitchell Johnson is back into the attack -- he will be key man for Australia for sure.
After 10 overs India are 43 for 1
Cheteshwar Pujara is the new man in. India will be hoping to build a partnership early in the innings
OUT! Shikhar Dhawan gets an inside edge onto his stumps. Ryan Harris picks up first wicket. Dhawan goes for 25 from 24 balls. India are 30 for 1
An interesting move. Johnson is off after just three overs. Nathan Lyon is on.
Siddle gives Vijay a gift to allow him to get off the mark. It was nicely punched on the rise and Siddle at mid-off lets it go through his hands, they take three
Dhawan is 15* from 7 deliveries while Vijay is yet get off the mark after facing 15 deliveries.
Dhawan with three brilliant boundaries. First one clipped of his leg towards deep square leg which was followed by brilliant straight drive and the third one flicked of his leg. India 15 for 0 after 3 overs
Dhawan gets an inside edge and a very very difficult chance goes begging -- Brad Haddin was wrong footed and it was very difficult chance
Dhawan is off the mark with a single. India off the mark as well. 1 for 0
Ryan Harris comes to bowl second over and starts well. Half hearted appeal for LBW but the ball was sliding down the leg side.
The first over is negotiated well by Murali Vijay. India 0 for 0 after 1st over
Vijay and Dhawan are at the crease. Vijay is on strike. Johnson will open the attack for Australia
The news coming in is that Australia have declared. Their bowlers are out there practicing.
